Colour Blocking
Materials: painters tape (low-tack), 4 small roller & tray sets, chalk line, level, pencil.
Paint: Benjamin Moore’s Collection Eggshell, colours: CC-590 grasslands, HC-116 guilford green, HC-99 abingdon putty, CC-220 wheat sheaf.

Step 1
Apply painter's tape horizontally on the wall, approximately 1 meter from the floor. From approximately 3 ft., paint a base coat of the deepest colour – CC-220 grasslands, to cover the lower portion of the wall. Apply twice allowing adequate dry time.

Step 2
Dependant on the width of the main wall, determine an appropriate colour block size (ours were 24" x 24").

Step 3
Use a tape measure and pencil to mark off the vertical and horizontal lines of the grid, and then chalk line to outline the grid on the wall.

Step 4
Begin taping the “outside” of alternate squares along the first row above the grasslands.

Step 5
Using wheat sheaf and abingdon putty, paint alternate colour blocks. Skipping a row, repeat with steps 4 and 5 up the wall.

Step 6
When paint is dry, repeat step 4 on the remaining rows, alternating with grasslands and guilford green to create a subtle gingham pattern on the wall.

Helpful Hints for Colour Blocking
